a haiku year                                                             John Bailey

Spring

bright spray
dark sky behind
first cherry blossom

fountain trickles
bamboo smiles --
new grass stretches

how strange!
showers
fall on ice

ivy tendrils
circle the air
seek new directions

jumping into puddles
splish splash -
haiku walking

morning sunshine
through slatted blind
so bright!

new washed cat
each hair
licked clean

old grey poet
thinks of gardens
forgets words

on the wet log
a fluffed duckling
waits

pinecone drops
cogs whir --
cuckoo!

tall tree shaking
raggedy rooks rising -
what a racket!

song thrush perches
shakes rain away
splash!

still pond
grows sudden circles -
first raindrops

sudden breeze
plays on the pond
koi rise for breakfast

three bean rows
so straight
so neat

two kittens playing
sun shines warm --
two kittens sleeping

between moonshadows
a vixen screaming --
pheromone night

curious robin
begs crumbs
hates Hershey

in the misty rain
one bittern
booms

kitten lifts cat flap
flip flop
still raining

river floods
safe dry cat
watches

wild night screams --
vixen plays
in moon shadows

throwing a pebble
across the pond --
see it bounce!
