about
My name is John Bailey. I was born and raised in London, and have lived and worked in England for most of my life, with short diversions elsewhere. I am now retired and, for the moment, I live in rural Lincolnshire.
All the pictures here were taken with a Fujifilm Finepix S7000 digital camera except for those where I left the big camera in the bag and used a tiny Aiptek 1.3 megapixel mini pencam for fun, unobtrusiveness, and convenience.
While I respect the no-crop, no-adjustment, show-what-you-see approach to photography, I don't share it. I was taught my picture making in art school in the 1950s and, shortly afterwards, my photography in a professional studio and darkroom. Nothing I learned then or have learned since persuades me that it is anything other than perfectly legitimate to apply whatever post-processing I can devise to present my pictures as I want them to be seen. I use Photoshop to that end.
These, then, are some of my pictures. I hope that they will speak for themselves.
